What do you think?
When my love swears that she is made of truth I do believe her, though I know she lies, That she might think me some untutor'd youth, Unlearned in the world's false subtleties. Thus vainly thinking that she thinks me young, Although she knows my days are past the best, Simply I credit her false speaking tongue: On both sides thus is simple truth suppress'd. But wherefore says she not she is unjust? And wherefore say not I that I am old? O, love's best habit is in seeming trust, And age in love loves not to have years told: Therefore I lie with her and she with me, And in our faults by lies we flatter'd be. -Sonnet 138- Shakespeare. |

So Grace found a white hair on my head today, and I told her to pull it out because I wanted to see it, and It was a regular length hair that was all pure white. Weird eh?

Nothing really new, except lots of classes, lots of homework, and not much of anything else. Life is rather boring at the moment, with an occasional reprieve of Ultimate Frisbee.

"Religion is based, I think, primarily and mainly upon fear. It is partly the terror of the unknown and partly, as I have said, the wish to feel that you have a kind of elder brother who will stand by you in all your troubles and disputes. Fear is the basis of the whole thing -- fear of the mysterious, fear of defeat, fear of death. Fear is the parent of cruelty, and therefore it is no wonder if cruelty and religion have gone hand in hand. It is because fear is at the basis of those two things. In this world we can now begin a little to understand things, and a little to master them by help of science, which has forced its way step by step against the Christian religion, against the churches, and against the opposition of all the old precepts. Science can help us to get over this craven fear in which mankind has lived for so many generations. Science can teach us, and I think our own hearts can teach us, no longer to look around for imaginary supports, no longer to invent allies in the sky, but rather to look to our own efforts here below to make this world a better place to live in, instead of the sort of place that the churches in all these centuries have made it |

| Viva Mexico!!! |
[Aug. 6th, 2007|10:01 pm] |
Ok so now for the summary of my trip to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. (near Cancun)
We took two flights, one a 40 min flight to Memphis, and from there a 2.5 hour flight to Cancun airport. Then we took an airport sanctioned taxi to our hotel (Viva Wyndham Maya, we could see Cozumel island). We left our house at 8 in the morning and arrived at the resort at about 6:30.
I proceeded to eat dinner at their buffet, which had really good food. After this I went to look around the resort; I came upon a huge chess set, with the king coming up to about my waist. I sat there for a few minutes, until a Mexican family came up and wanted to play me (they didn't speak English at all). I was white and they were black; there were two black pieces missing, the queen and a bishop, so the family made two of their little boys play the pieces. I ended up beating them, but about halfway through the game, two girls, Becky(16) and Rachel(14), came up and sat on a bench to watch. About 5 min after that, a guy, Marvin(15), came up and stood by on the side and watched. After I won, the family asked for a rematch "Again? Again?" But I declined, going to sit with the two girls and let Marvin play (he ended up losing), but I made friends with them and we ended the night sitting on the beach talking and just hanging out until 12. I also found out that Becky had a boyfriend that night.
For the next few days I woke up, ate breakfast at the buffet, chilled at the beach or pool with the group, drank a bunch of Strawberry Daiquiris and Congas, and ended the night on the beach.
On the fourth day we went to Discovery Jungle as an excursion, where we were picked up in a really janky VW bus that didn't have any seats (only wooden benches) and no interior and were taken to their hub. From there we rode 10 miles into the jungle on ATVs (probably the highlight of the trip), once we arrived, we went on 5 zip lines and other high ropes things, after which we climbed down into an underground cave and swam in freezing cold water for about 30 min. Then we rode back on the ATVs. about 10 minutes into the ride back, my mum's ATV had a flat tire, and the guides had to repair it. When we got back and I took off my goggles I had a clear layer of dust where my skin was exposed.
On the next day we went to Chichen Itza, which was one of the main Mayan cities. It was a 3.5 hour bus ride there, which was made interesting by the tour guide. We only had about 3 hours at Chichen Itza, but it was still well worth it. I'd love to go back and have a whole day to spend there. On the sides of the paths were street vendors with which you could haggle over prices, which was really fun. I ended up buying three things for myself and three gifts with $13. My sister bought a hammock for $14.
They had a disco (it was actually more like a rave) thing there from 11-2 am to which I went 3 times. It was actually a lot better than other dances I've been to because they actually had music you could dance to instead of mostly rap. (by the way, I only saw about 3 black people the whole week)
In Mexico they have speed bumps that would put our's in America to shame, cars had to actually almost come to a halt to be able to go over them without knocking the people's teeth out. I also noticed that almost every car was a stick shift. Out of all the cars I saw, about 3/4 of them were Volkswagens, and out of those, 1/2 were the old version of the Bug. I think I saw one new version of the bug the whole time, compared to the thousands of old bugs.
And that's pretty much all I can think of, and now for the quotes:
"If only we’d stop trying to be happy, we could have a pretty good time."
"Humor is a rubber sword - it allows you to make a point without drawing blood." |

I went to see Transformers today with my family; it was really great, especially the graphics, which looked as if they took some poor bloke a few years to create.
"You risked your life, but what else have you ever risked? Have you ever risked disapproval? Have you ever risked a belief? I see nothing particularly courageous in risking one's life. So you lose it, you go to your hero's heaven and everything is milk and honey 'til the end of time, right? You get your reward and suffer no earthly consequences. That's not courage. Real courage is risking somthing that you have to keep on living with, real courage is risking something that might force you to rethink your thoughts and suffer change and stretch consciousness. Real courage is risking one's cliches." |

I was going 36 in a 25mph zone....on a bike.
Today I did a practice triathlon and did all three events. It was 300m swim, 20k bike, and 5k run. It was so hard to run after biking since my legs felt as if they were made of jelly, but I managed to finish it, so I was really proud of myself.

So today was really fun, actually from 7pm-9pm was, the rest of the day was just as boring as the rest of my week. I went and played soccer in the rain with a church group. They're mostly in their young 20's so it's really fun. I have mixed feelings about having only 1 month left of summer: I want to go back to school to have something to do, but having all this free time is really nice, not to mention I won't get to see some of the friends that I've made over the summer.

So life has been really boring lately, but on a brighter note: The Senate voted today to require average fuel economy of 35 miles per gallon for new cars, pickup trucks and SUVs by 2020, hiking standards that haven't changed significantly for nearly two decades. |

I hung out with Brittany McGhee, and that was really fun because i haven't seen her in almost a year, since she moved to Texas. Other than that, life has been pretty good, but boring at home. I'm still working at Oak Mountain State Park, so I have a little bit of cash flow to balance out that -$150 in my bank account that I somehow managed to get.

So today has been a really full day with SAT's in the morning(4 hours), then Stressfest around lunchtime, which had a rock wall, gyroscopes, beach volleyball, and a big slip and slide. To top the day off, i went to Christina Burell's graduation party, it was all black people except for Grace and myself....it was interesting... Me trying to do the "zoom zoom" and the 2 step and walking it out and all that stuff.

Yeah, what a better way not to have people notice you than taking a thirty foot Cadillac with a TV antenna and a uniformed driver. How discreet. Nobody cares who's in the limo. You see a limo go by, you know it's either some rich jerk or fifty prom kids with $1.75 each" |

So I've been looking at colleges and scholarships for the past two hours. Phew. I've ended up filling out a profile at www.zinch.com which seems as if it will be helpful. I still really want to go to Duke U. I played ultimate frisbee in the rain today; it was sooo much fun, even though i wasn't too happy later.
